Leave first.
Some nights the most elegant thing you can do is leave first.
Not dramatically. No speech, no group goodbye that takes forty minutes.
Coat on.
One last look around the room.
Gone.
Everyone else stays to find out how the night ends.
You already know. It ends the way they always end: someone too loud, someone too sad, someone texting a person they swore they were done with.
You leave while it's still beautiful.
While the lipstick is still on.
While the conversation still had somewhere to go.
And the next morning, they'll say your name and wonder where you went.
That's the thing about leaving first.
The story keeps you in its best chapter.
